Researchers of Melbourne University has come up with a wireless technology which promises high speed short range data transfers with speeds of upto 5 Gbps within a radius of 10 meters. The new wireless technology is named GiFi operates on the 60GHz frequency band, which is currently mostly unused. The GiFi Chip developed by the Australian researchers measures 5mm square and is manufactured using existing complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) technology, the same system that is currently used to print silicon chips.

The best part about this new technology is its cost effectiveness and power consumption, it only consumes 2 watts of power for its operation with antenna(1mm) included and the development of Gi-Fi chip costs approximately $10( Rs 380) to manufacture.

In theory this technology would transfers GB’s of your fav high definition movies in seconds. So GiFi can be considered as a challenger to Bluetooth rather than Wi-Fi and could find applications ranging from new mobile phones to consumer electronics.

Mass production of the technology might not start before 2009.

Good news for folks in the mobile game industry. According to a new report from Parks Associates titled "The New Frontier: Portable and Mobile Gaming", off-deck sales of mobile games will grow from less than 10% in 2007 to nearly 30% in 2012.

This move to off-deck will enable the mobile game market in the US to grow from $700M in 2007 sales to $1.7B in 2011.

“Off-deck marketing and distribution, combined with new business models such as mobile game advertising, episodic content delivery, and micro-payments, will rekindle industry growth," said Yuanzhe (Michael) Cai, director of broadband and gaming at Parks Associates.

The article from eMarketer highlights how off-deck sales help the mobile gaming market grow in a few ways:

- Independent developers and publishers who don't have to have their games approved by carriers can potentially offer a wider range of game types, bringing in more gamers.

- Off-deck transactions could also mean more money to game publishers by reducing the carriers' cut. Similarly, such transactions could lower prices for consumers, prompting more sales.

This is music to Movaya's ears as we plan to help power a significant percentage of that $600M in off-deck game sales in the US in 2012.

Tab browsing for Firefox is almost perfect for most average to intermediate users. But for a geek everything has to be picture perfect. Here are few Tab extensions that extracts more out of the already lean and mean Firefox browser.

Tab Mix Plus
Tab Mix is probably the most used tab extension. Most of the cool features came with Firefox 2. It includes such features as duplicating tabs, controlling tab focus, tab clicking options, undo closed tabs and windows, plus much more. Also the session manager gives it total control over crashes.

Fancy Numbered Tabs

Replaces the close tab graphic with numbers to help with quick tab navigation via CTRL + [1-8] or Alt + [1-8].

Tree Style Tab

This extension is quite interesting, it replaces the normal bar tab structure and provides a tree-style tab bar, like a folder tree of Windows Explorer. You can collapse/expand sub trees, really handy when browsing with too many tabs.

Separate Tabs

This extension automatically sorts your tabs according to the domain name.
Tab Scope

Shows a popup on tabs and enables you to preview and navigate tab contents through popup.

TabRenamizer

Scared of someone looking over your back, TabRenamizer is a smart extension that lets you rename your tabs. No scare of getting caught while watching porn.

Tab Catalog

This shows contents of all of tabs as a thumbnail-style list. Much like the Opera Speed dial.

TabHistory

Want to view a site that you previously visited, but now eve the history doesn’t shows its.TabHistory is an interesting extension that provides a history of visited tabs.

Open Image In New Tab

Adds right-click context menu item for opening images in new.

FaviconizeTab

This extension adds a new “FaviconizeTab” option to the context menu of the tab. It makes the width of the tab to the size of a small Favicon.

Search the addons website of Firefox for more wonderful and interesting extensions. These are only my favorites.
